Christmas list

Christmas list

“…all I want for Christmas is…”

Last year,
All I got for Christmas was…
A pinch of salt – for resolutions
A bottle of glue – for broken promises
A roll of paper – for cracks
A camcorder – to capture missed opportunities
A drop of milk – over which to cry
A carpet – under which to brush indiscretions
A cabinet – to hoard all mistakes
A room – for an elephant
A knife – for the back
A clothes line – for airing dirty laundry
A spectacle – for neighbours
A bridge – to burn
A road – to hell.

This year,
All I want for Christmas is…
A new lover – preferably one who doesn’t fancy my best mate.

Goodnight to remember

"...before you went to bed, before I caught the train..."

“…before you went to bed, before I caught the train…”

One night…
Before you went to bed, before I caught the train
You slipped inside my hopeless head
And switched me on again

That night…
Before you went to bed, before I caught the train
You stoked the embers so long dead
Rekindling the flame

Last night…
Before you went to bed, before I caught the train
I needed every word you said
To numb the rising pain

I dream…
Before you went to bed, before I caught that train
I tell you how much I love you
Before you catch your plane

Tonight…
Before you go to bed, don’t dwell upon your pain
Just know how much you are adored
By one whose life you saved

To the One I love most…

"We three we are one"

“We three we are one…”

Chasing balloons in the sky You, Lu and I…
We are one.

We reach for planes, we point at trees
We hide from tigers, we catch a sneeze
We warm the fingers, we guide the scooter
You hair-slide the curls, that very much suit her.
We hunt for bears, we watch baby Jake
We draw, “not there!”, get covered in paint
We cry, but laugh more; and for longer
We run and play, our hearts grow stronger.

We drag our feet, we trip in puddles
We “duddle-me?” softly, her warm baby cuddles
We cook the din-dins, we pat-pat the tum
We do the sing-sings, we “need the dum-dum”.

We call in for Walter, we dance with Mia
We warm her bottle, for me it’s so clear…

Though there’s three of us here, this is my toast:
To You, Lu and I – the One I love most.
